"Born to Play Baseball" (Spanish title: Nacido Para Jugar Beisbol) is a personal photography project and coffee table book by Gary Land that documents the raw, passionate baseball culture of kids in the Dominican Republic.
The Book: It is a customized 12"x12", 110-page book printed on uncoated stock. A total print run of 1,000 copies was produced, with 500 copies distributed as promotional pieces to clients and 500 copies sold online.
Charity Purpose: All sales proceeds benefit Dominican Republic charities, specifically supporting up-and-coming athletes and providing equipment and clothing to children. The project has notably partnered with the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.
Gallery Show: The work was featured at an opening reception and gallery exhibition at Foto Care in New York City on March 20, 2012.
Production Context: The imagery was captured during a week-long shoot in and around San Pedro, Dominican Republic, coordinated with producer Tracey Cuesta.
